Severe Weather- Leesburg, VA

This is the current severe weather outlook according to the Storm Prediction Center.  The area in dark red through eastern Kentucky and western and central West Virginia has the highest chance of seeing severe weather today.  Areas in lighter red through Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio have a lower chance of severe weather, however strong thunderstorms are still expected to develop.  Areas in yellow, basically everywhere east of the Mississippi river have a chance for showers and thunderstorms today.  The main risks associated with any thunderstorms developing today will be large hail in excess of 2 inches in diameter and damaging winds gusting up to 60 MPH.  Expect these thunderstorms to develop within the next few hours ahead of an advancing cold front which is stretched southwestward from central Indiana into Arkansas and Texas.  This front will move east throughout the afternoon bringing strong thunderstorms with it.  Areas in northern Virginia around Leesburg can expect these thunderstorms to move through later this evening, most likely between 6 and 8 PM tonight.

A tornado watch will likely be issued within the next hour for areas in northern Kentucky and West Virginia (highlighted in dark red).  I will keep this updated as thunderstorms develop and advance eastward.
