Severe Weather Update- Starkville, MS

Here's a pretty cool look at the line of storms about 250 miles west of Starkville.  An area of dry air plunging south into Florida has allowed for a pocket of slightly drier air to move into central and southern Mississippi.  This may cut down on the severity of thunderstorms as they approach Starkville, however southerly winds and sunshine may help to intensify the line.  Expect these storms to move through Starkville within the next 5 to 6 hours, or around 9AM.

Severe Weather- Starkville, MS

This is the current radar image for the entire eastern U.S.  There is currently a large line of thunderstorms extended from northern Ohio southwest through eastern Texas moving to the east.  The red/purple reflectivity are the heaviest areas of rain and thunderstorms.  The white bolts are lightning strikes and each pink box and red circle indicate a severe thunderstorm or an area of rotation.  Expect this line to continue pushing east throughout the day Monday.  Areas around Starkville will likely see these storms move through late morning Monday.

This is the current severe weather outlook for Monday.  Most of Tennessee, northern Alabama, and southern Kentucky have the greatest risk for severe weather tomorrow.  As the line of storms from the radar image pushes east Monday, daytime heating along with warm air already in place ahead of the front will help to strengthen these storms and cause new storms to develop.  Areas highlighted in red have the highest chance of seeing tornadoes and strong winds gusting over 60 MPH.  Anywhere else ahead of this line (areas highlighted in orange) has a chance of seeing severe weather tomorrow, however conditions will not be as favorable for a large severe weather outbreak.

Monday-  Cloudy during the morning, with showers and thunderstorms likely by 1PM.  Some storms could be severe with damaging winds to 60 MPH and heavy rain.  Showers will continue through most of the afternoon, with some clearing by sunset.  High temperature around 76.

Monday night-  Mostly clear and cooler.  Breezy with winds gusting up to 30 MPH.  Low temperature around 37.

Monday night-  Showers and thunderstorms during the evening, some strong, ending around 10PM.  Continued breezy with winds gusting to 30 MPH.  Expect partial clearing late overnight.  Low temperature around 34.

NEW! EXTENDED FORECAST-  Conditions will improve through the rest of next week as sunshine returns.  However, temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 40s Tuesday, and back around 50 by Wednesday and Thursday.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE- Starkville, MS

This is the current radar image for central Mississippi.  As you can see a line of strong thunderstorms is pushing to the east.

This is the current radar image for areas around Starkville.  These storms are currently 50 miles to the west and are expected to impact Starkville between 10 and 10:30PM.

The entire area including north/central Mississippi and west/central Alabama are under a Tornado Watch until 2AM Friday morning.  Be careful if you are going out later this evening and stay alert to changing weather and tornado sirens.

Severe Weather Update- Starkville, MS

This is the current radar image.  Notice the line of thunderstorms stretched from eastern Texas northward through Arkansas to continue pushing east this afternoon along a cold front.  These storms are about 320 miles west of Starkville and will continue moving east at around 60 MPH, reaching Starkville by around 6:30 PM.  Additional thunderstorms will begin to develop ahead of this initial line as temperatures and dew points rise.  The red box over central/western Arkansas and north/northeast Louisiana and Texas is a Tornado Watch box which is currently in effect until 6PM.  I expect more watches to be added to this as the afternoon progresses.  I'll update this as the storms develop this afternoon.
